What is a Sonic Weekend?

Sonic Weekends are a series of residential recordings hosted and developed by the independent music imprint White Label Music (WLM/DPRK). These sessions are staged once or twice a year at various compass points in The UK and mainland Europe.
The idea is to take a group of approx 30 persons (including crew), a recording studio, an engineer/producer and record an album of improvised music based on a theme in a designated time period. The duration of the recordings depends on location and travel time but varies between 3-7 days.
WLM provide the arena to record an album in an unusual space in a beautiful location, the rest as they say is up to the musicians! These events are paid for by the artists themselves and the recordings they produce are placed on itunes by WLM/DPRK and collectively owned by those taking part. We have just completed our 8th Sonic Weekend in France, a huge success!

Are Sonic Weekends for me ?

We do not publicise these events. Artists who have attended previous recordings introduce new people to come and record with us, so if you trust your friends or musical colleagues and they say they like it, maybe you will!
Really the only way to find out is to come and see for yourself. We have had people who normally hate working in groups tell us how productive it is to get out of their comfort zones and create really impressive and inventive pieces of music.
The emphasis is on productivity and creativity twinned with a lot of fun. If you love making new and interesting music you will love Sonic Weekend!
